Sekolah Putri Darul Istiqamah (SPIDI) Maros welcomed a visit from the CEO of Parallaxnet America, Mazhar Durrani. His visit was in conjunction with his role as a speaker at the International Symposium organized by SPIDI Maros on Monday, June 3, 2024.
The international symposium, titled “How to Build an Islamic Start-Up Business,” was an effort by SPIDI to equip its students with knowledge on Islamic business. Durrani’s presence became a highly inspiring moment for the students, especially when he candidly admitted that it was his first time feeling nervous speaking in front of a predominantly female audience. Nevertheless, he expressed how delighted and honored he was to share his knowledge at this all-girls school.
Durrani emphasized the importance of technology in modern life and business, stating that technology has become an integral part of all aspects of life, from medicine to mechanical engineering. He also explained the rapid technological changes taking place and how challenging it can be for those working in the field to keep up.
Durrani reminded the students to take inspiration from Prophet Muhammad (SAW), who worked for his wife Khadijah, a successful businesswoman. He encouraged the students to be strong leaders and not simply follow the crowd. According to Durrani, being a good Muslim woman and holding firmly to Islamic values is the key to success in building a business.
Durrani also introduced his daughter, Tania Fatima Mazhar Durrani, who currently leads a major company in Los Angeles. Through a video call, Tania shared her experiences of working in a male-dominated tech industry. She encouraged the SPIDI students to keep learning and seize every opportunity to grow.
“Continue, never give up, you guys are going to be successful. I want you to move forward in the second, third, and technology sectors,” Tania said.
The symposium was interactive, with many questions posed by the students. Durrani took the opportunity to motivate the students to always be disciplined, work hard, and trust in Allah. He assured them that with effort and prayer, they can achieve great success.
“Allah loves people who work hard and struggle. You have to change the world, you have to adopt a new culture. That’s pretty much it from my side,” Durrani said, urging the students to continuously seek knowledge and improve their skills.
Durrani noted that the world is changing rapidly, and only those who keep learning and adapting will succeed. He also reminded them of the importance of building networks and collaborating with others, as success often comes from working together.
